Who We Are

Dr. Christine Cearfoss (she/her)
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
25819

Just by visiting this website, you have set the intention to live a more joyful and conscious existence. How exciting! My extensive training and life experience has provided me with many tools and strategies that I am eager to share with you on your path to joy. Of course, working together in an area as sensitive and important as your emotional well-being requires a sense of safety, so that is my top priority. And before you can trust me to guide your journey, you ought to know a little about mine.

I didn’t choose to be a therapist—therapy picked me! I have always known it was my life’s purpose to help people live more consciously and thrive. My journey began with the pursuit of higher education to give me the foundation I needed to serve my calling. First, I earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology, then a master’s in social work, followed by professional licensure. As of 2018 I also now hold a PhD in Human Services and Clinical Social Work.

At the beginning of my career, when I worked at an inpatient psychiatric hospital, I quickly learned that individuals suffering with mental illness need a kind and loving person to support them, because there is nothing scarier than feeling that you are losing control and no one understands. It became my personal mission to provide that understanding. Eventually, I transitioned into a community mental health position, accessing resources and providing linkage services to clients recently discharged from the hospital.

In April 2000, I decided to pursue my dream to move to California from New Jersey. The reason behind my longing remains a mystery. Someday, I hope to realize why I needed to come here, but for now, I’m just enjoying it. At first, I knew very few people here and felt very alone—it turns out that connecting with others as an adult is not so easy!

Soon, I joined a mental health agency that provided me with the opportunity to counsel clients and families in their homes, an honor not to be taken lightly. Through this experience, I developed skills to engage clients from different backgrounds relating to various and difficult treatment issues. Over the next 16 years, I worked my way up from a community mental health clinician to Clinical Supervisor to Junior Executive in their corporate office. My final role was Corporate Training Manager, which required me to stay current in the latest mental health research and disseminate it throughout the company, and I became certified as an ATDMaster Trainer” in curriculum development and public speaking.

When my promotions kept me away from the direct interaction that I loved with clients, I started a part-time private practice in 2009. As the years passed, I continually had a nagging feeling that it was time to go “all in.” Eventually, I heeded that feeling and took a huge leap, leaving the security of employment to open my full-time private practice in August 2015. I have never been happier! The practice continues to grow, with staff members joining our team and new groups forming regularly.

My guiding philosophy is that life provides choices and we can decide what choices suit us best. Sometimes we may not know until we discuss it with others, but the best choice will always reveal itself over time—and it may not be what we “want” so much as what we “need.” When this happens, it is valuable to have someone to assist with the growth process. I am happy to be that person for you.

“February 2022 update: After 22 years in CA, I have returned to NJ to spend some quality time with friends and family. I have transitioned my personal clients to 100% telehealth and all new CA clients will be telehealth moving forward.. When COVID first happened and we moved to telehealth, I did so kicking and screaming as I immensely enjoy being in the room with my clients. However, after 2 years of telehealth I learned how to make up for not being in the same room and have discovered that sometimes telehealth is even better than in-person. If you are unsure about telehealth I get that. I was too! However, if you decide to give it a try I think you will be surprised how easy and comfortable it can be.”

Ren

Hi. I’m Ren. I normally hang out with my mom, Christine, during her work days, but I don’t have to. I don’t bite and LOVE to cuddle and give kisses. If you’d like to meet me when you come to the office I would really like that. If you would prefer I be elsewhere during your appointment I can easily arrange that. If you are allergic to dogs please tell my mom that too. She will make sure to arrange for you two to meet in a dog-free office.

Every person deserves to live a more fulfilled and healthy life. On your way to healing, it is vital that we tend to all parts of wellness including mental, emotional, physical and sexual health. Sexual health is a very important part of a person’s overall health and wellness that is often overlooked. My passion is helping couples and individuals resolve sexual issues, improve intimacy and communication, overcome sexual stigma and shame, process sexual trauma, and gain education about healthy sexuality. I am a sex positive, LGBT+ affirmative and BDSM/Kink-Aware therapist. I have experience with consensual non-monogamous, polyamorous and other alternative relationships. I understand how vulnerable it can be to discuss your sexual concerns, so building a warm, authentic and open relationship is very important to me. I strive to provide a safe place to explore the most intimate parts of yourself, emphasizing self-compassion and acceptance. I fully believe in my clients’ ability to live fully integrated and happy lives.

I have completed my AASECT sex therapy certification 150-hour training through the Beuhler Institute. I am currently working to complete my sex therapy certification. I attended the University of California, Santa Cruz, where I earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology. I continued my education at California State University, Long Beach, with a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. I am currently a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. I have been working with clients in several areas of the mental health field for over 10 years. I am excited for the pleasure of joining you on your journey toward sexual exploration and healing.

In today’s fast-paced society, stress has become our daily battle. I have witnessed the increasing stress that children and families face in our hyper-competitive and individualist society. Studies have shown that stress can affect concentration, decision making, learning, and a host of other everyday functions. Over time, it can lead to family discord and health problems. I provide a safe, relaxing, and non-judgmental space where we can collaboratively explore the experiences and challenges in your life.
I am committed to the collaborative process of helping you change your relationship with a problem that you are struggling with. I invite you to explore and discover an alternative way of looking at problems, and uncovering your preferences for life. When working with clients, I listen for personal values and dreams, and pay close attention to cultural discourse and societal norms that may be impacting our lives. I believe you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to help facilitate the changes that you want to make.

I hold a Master of Arts Degree in Clinical Psychology from Antioch University, Los Angeles. Prior to my studies at Antioch University, I studied Theater and Cinema at USC, and was the Student Advisor for the Performing Arts at UCLA for eleven years. I have lived in the South Bay for over thirty years, I am married and have two teenage children.

Betty Arias
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist

My name is Betty Arias and I have been licensed since 2003, and providing therapy since 1999. I have extensive experience working with clients of all ages and cultures, and have provided treatment to many people with depression, anxiety, self esteem, relationship and family issues. I became a therapist after developing an anxiety disorder and getting help through therapy, a support group and medication so I appreciate the field and know treatment works. My clinical bent leans toward recognizing the tie between how we think and our feelings and behaviors; however I would say that my approach is eclectic with an emphasis on providing a safe, supportive and nurturing space for clients to express and explore all feelings and emotions. It would be an honor to work with you in a collaborative setting to help you be the best version of you.

Do you feel like your mental health is holding you back? Despite tremendous efforts, do you still feel like something isn’t right? Whether it’s relationship problems, job issues, or just feeling overwhelmed and disorganized, being human is hard. Figuring out how to navigate this world without losing ourselves is one of the greatest challenges we face. Let’s work together to uncover any self-destructive thought or belief patterns you may hold, to form a new, more empowering narrative. My therapeutic style is authentic and supportive, with an ongoing curiosity and capacity for humor along the way. As much as I am warm and playful in my approach, I am also direct. I will encourage you to challenge yourself in session, as you are the ultimate expert in your life. The foundation of my approach lies upon compassionate self-awareness. With a therapeutic relationship built upon mutual trust, efficacy, and respect, I will help you become more self-aware of unhealthy thinking and behavioral patterns that may be hindering and preventing you from living your best life.

I am a proud multicultural therapist of Mexican and Salvadorian descent, born and raised in the Los Angeles area. I completed my Bachelors in Psychology and Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I am now working towards my doctorate in Clinical Psychology, with a research emphasis on Post-traumatic growth (i.e., the potential to undergo positive change after experiencing a traumatic event). I have worked with children, adolescents, and adults who have been impacted by a variety of mental health issues, including but not limited to, anxiety, stress, depression, trauma, perfectionism, self-esteem, and showing up as their most authentic selves.

When I am not in session, you can find me tending to my plants, starting DIY home projects, or playing with my pup, Sigmund (AKA “Siggy”).

People seek therapy for many different reasons. Maybe you’ve tried to figure things out on your own, or you confided in unsafe people, and
were left feeling hurt or confused. You might feel nervous about trusting a stranger, but you’ve heard that therapy has worked for
other people. Opening up about your life involves courage and vulnerability, and I begin my therapeutic relationships by inviting my
clients to share at a comfortable pace. Wherever your past led you, I’m here to support you, judgement free, on a new path to exploring
your true self. I consider therapy to be a co-created space that is built on trust and grows as we work together to hold space for life’s
complexities. Allowing ourselves to develop new perspectives can be challenging and require some assistance.

My passion population includes members of the LGBTQ+ community and their family members. As a queer/gender affirming therapist, I offer
support, respect, and acceptance of your identity and who you are. I walk alongside my clients to overcome imposter syndrome, create
empowerment after trauma, examine gender and identity, and reduce anxiety and worry.

I possess a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a master’s degree in clinical psychology. I have also received training to support the
queer community and hold an LGBTQIA2+ certification through CCAPP. In my free time, I create a lot of fiber art– typically crocheting and
sewing!

Hello. I am a registered associate professional clinical counselor in the state of California and am very passionate about helping others in all facets of life. I have a background working with a variety of different populations and want to make sure you feel respected and demonstrate growth as we go on this therapeutic journey together. I began providing therapy in 2020, and I have fallen in love with helping others. My professional experiences not only solidified my love to aid others, but to help guide individuals through any situation, regardless of what stage of processing they are in.

I utilize evidence-based approaches, and also combine psychodynamic techniques with accountability worksheets and coaching around daily tasks. These interventions can make a drastic difference in one’s mental state and functionality. As someone who is trained in eye-movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR), and who has seen the positive effect it can have on my clients firsthand, this technique can be used as an alternative to the traditional therapeutic approach of “talk” therapy, providing another facet of growth and healing.

I am also a proud member of the LGBTQ community.

Let us go on this journey together!

She never made me feel pressured to change it was just her way of interaction that made me want to do better. Her way of talking gives you a different perspective and helps to open your mind look at a situation from every aspect. It’s truly inspiring. If you’re in need of a counselor and are unsure Christine is definitely worth it. She’ll make you feel very comfortable and is very professional.”

“Christine is a thoughtful & fabulous therapist who gave me tremendous insight into many facets of my life. This allowed me to re-shape the way I was thinking and gain a different perspective. She provided me with some remarkable tools that helped me to heal from years of scars left behind after dealing with a series of traumatic events. Each time I visited with Christine I felt re-charged and gained a sharper focus on what I needed to do to heal. It was like a light switch was turned on each visit and I could see a much clearer picture. The greatest gift she gave me was the ability to listen and hear my story, without judgment. And for this, I am grateful.”
-M.N.

“Visiting Christine is always a pleasure. From day one I have felt comfortable talking with her. She makes each and every time a relaxing time and takes it at the speed that you want to. She does not impose her thoughts but lets you come to realizations of your own. I can see the authenticity of her desire to be invested in her clients rather then treat this just as a job. Overall she is great to work with and I recommend her to any one. I can’t thank her enough for the help that she has given me.”
-J.R.

“In addition to providing us with tools that helped improve our communication with one another; our sessions with Christine helped us feel more comfortable and confident when interacting with others. She’s a great listener who provided a relaxing atmosphere that made it possible to focus on what is important and what is not. She offered practical ideas for things we could work on between sessions. We feel very fortunate to have worked with Christine, and we would recommend her to anyone!”
