As my clients exit our therapy sessions I often say “take care of yourself”. Recently a client stopped and asked me what that meant. It had not dawned on me that she may not know what that means. Taking care of yourself means listening to your mind and body regarding what it needs to function well. This could be getting enough rest, eating well, socializing with friends, or simply relaxing and enjoying downtime. For some, this means something bigger like a vacation. Many of us are different in what constitutes “taking care of ourselves” and I encourage you to explore what really recharges your drained battery. If you are trying strategies already and nothing seems to be working, consider talking to a professional. This person can help you to uncover what works for you. The act alone of talking to someone can serve as taking care of yourself!
So as I always say, take care of yourself.
