How do I take care of myself?

What does this even mean? I get up, go to work, pay my bills, eat my meals, and sometimes if I am on a roll I even exercise. What more do I have to do???? Yes, those things do fall into the category of self-care but they are the mandatory, keep a roof-over-your-head kind of self-care activities. Taking care of yourself personally means doing things to replenish your mind, body, and spirit. Examples of this are sleeping, taking a walk, talking with a friend, going on a vacation, spending a lazy Sunday watching Netflix, playing with your dog, trying out a new activity you have wanted to try for a while but have not gotten around to doing, taking a bath or long shower, or simply talking to yourself with kindness. Self-care is vital to our existence. Without it we cannot show up for ourselves and for others in life. In other words, when we don’t practice self-care we get emotionally and energetically depleted. That depletion creates “not so great” feelings and negative energy. That negative energy surrounds us and goes out into the world. People pick up on it and don’t want to be in relation to us, or may even be triggered by us and engage with us negatively. We then pick up on their negativity and give it back, and so on and so on and so on… you get the picture. So, yes, you must do things to take care of yourself. You must be lazy, you must relax, you must recharge. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but your prescription has been written.
As always, take care of yourself (and this time you really know what that means!),
Christine
